FIFA lifts suspension on AIFF; U-17 Women's World Cup as scheduled

Image
The Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to lift the suspension that was imposed on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) due to undue third-party influence. The decision was taken after FIFA received confirmation that the mandate of the committee of administrators that was set up to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee had been terminated and that the AIFF administration had regained full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs. FIFA and the AFC will continue to monitor the situation and will support the AIFF in organising its elections in a timely manner. As a consequence, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 scheduled to take place on 11-30 October 2022 will be held in India as planned. AIFF acting General Secretary Sunando Dhar said: “The darkest hour of Indian Football is finally over. The suspension that was slapped on midnight of August 15 on the AIFF, has been lifted by FIFA. Chhetri, Sahal score late winners for India against Afghanistan

Image
India produced a dramatic 1-2 victory against Afghanistan in their second match of Group D in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023 at the VYBK Stadium on June 11, 2022, with Sunil Chhetri and Sahal Abdul Samad scoring for the country in the 86th and 90+2nd minute respectively. The match started at a very high tempo as both Afghanistan and India tried to press high up the pitch and stamp their authority on the match. There was no room to breathe in the middle of the park and it was the case during the entirety of the match. The first significant action came in the 6th minute when Manvir Singh got past a couple of players and made his way into the box but a brilliant tackle stopped the forward in his tracks. India piled on the pressure, earning multiple corners in the opening 10 minutes but Afghanistan was able to defend them. In the 12th minute, Liston Colaco got the opportunity to take a shot at a goal from a free kick but his effort was way off-target. The first big oppo

Sunil Chhetri brace helps India secure three points against Cambodia

India grabbed all three points in their first game of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023 as they comfortably defeated Cambodia by a margin of 2-0 at the Vivekanand Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. A brace from captain Sunil Chhetri (14', 59') gave India the victory for the night. As soon as the referee blew the whistle, with the crowd behind them the Indian National Team showed that they were up to the task as they pressed the Cambodia team-high in their own half and giving the opposition no time to breathe. The first shot on target for India came in the second minute itself as Roshan Singh tried to hit one into the back of the net from long range. Akash Mishra tried to pile on the pressure as he put on a beautiful shot in the 4th minute but Cambodian goalkeeper Hul Kimhuy was able to come forward and collect it. India dominated the opening stages but there was potential danger as Sandesh Jhingan was cautioned for a dangerous tackle. Ca

The two sides came into the game with 10 consecutive wins each and required a win to seal the title. The game at Kalinga Stadium itself was full of quality, with Sethu and Gokulam Kerala both producing brilliant passages of play.  The team from Tamil Nadu took the lead in just the third minute of the game after Anju Tamang’s powerful strike deflected off a defender and onto the head of Renu Rani. The forward made no mistake in slotting the ball home from close range. However, Gokulam Kerala bounced back with full force and equalised in the 14th minute. Loitongbam Ashalata Devi scored from the spot with a cool-headed finish after Elshaddai Acheampong drew a foul inside the box. Gokulam Kerala FC become first team to win back-to-back Hero I-League titles

Image
Gokulam Kerala held onto their nerves and created history by becoming the first-ever side to win two successive Hero I-League titles after their win against Mohammedan SC, here at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium tonight. A narrow 2-1 victory on hostile territory saw the Malabarians win the game and win the title with a six point advantage, also ending Mohammedan’s seven-game unbeaten streak in the process. Mohammedan needed a win to lift the title while Gokulam needed a draw at least to get their hands on the trophy. The stadium filled up as fans of the Black and White Brigade were buzzing and backing their team to attack. Building on the morale boosting support, Mohammedan dominated the possession in the first half while Gokulam seemed content trying their luck on the counter. The only effort on target in the first half came from an Andelo Rudovic freekick. The Bosnian’s effort was curling away from Rakshit Dagar but lacked power. As a result, the Gokula
