GFA Vedanta Women’s League: FC Goa thrashed Young Boys of Tonca 8-0

FC Goa made it three wins from three in the GFA Vedanta Women’s League as they dismantled Young Boys of Tonca 8-0 at Duler Stadium in Mapusa, on Friday.

Velanie Fernandes stole the limelight scoring as many as four goals to secure the three vital points for her team.

FC Goa girls looked dominant from the start and took the lead early on. Velanie scored her first goal in the 20th minute as her shot from the edge of the box crept into the net.

FC Goa girls didn’t have to wait too long to increase their lead as Velanie was on the mark yet again two minutes later, this time with a deft finish from close range.

Namita Govekar then struck with a diving header at the fag end of the first half to give FC Goa a three goal cushion going into the break.

The break didn’t mean any kind of let off from the girls in Orange as Velanie scored her fourth goal within 10 minutes of the restart – the midfielder this time striking from a free kick.

With goal difference set to be crucial at the top of the table, the FC Goa girls kept the pedal to the metal as Alisha Tavares made it 5-0 in the 64th minute. Four minutes later, it was 6-0 as Namita scored her second.

The icing on the cake came at the end of the game. The 87th minute saw Velanie scoring her fourth goal of the match as it made the scoreline 7-0 and three minutes into added time Arpita Pednekar rounded off the rout with the team’s eighth and the final score reading 8-0.
