Amrinder Singh signs a record-breaking deal with Mumbai City FC

Mumbai City FC have made their first move in the transfer market as they wrapped up the signature of Amrinder Singh from Bengaluru FC for the 2017-18 edition of the Indian Super League (ISL). The former Atletico de Kolkata is set to become the highest paid Indian goalkeeper ever a sum of ₹1 Crore and 20 Lakhs.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper returns to the Mumbaikars after a loan spell in the 2016 ISL. He made six appearances, keeping five clean sheets as Mumbai City topped the league phase, only to be knocked out by eventual winners Atletico de Kolkata in the semi-finals after a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.


Amrinder Singh is a product of the Pune FC academy, he made his first foray into the ISL with Atletico de Kolkata in 2015 where six clean sheets then earned him a bigger I-League contract with Bengaluru FC, initially on loan in 2016. He made that move permanent at the end of a successful 2016 I-League season with Singh being adjudged the best goalkeeper, keeping nine clean sheets. The Punjab-born also started the 2016 AFC Cup final against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya as Bengaluru FC ended runners-up, losing to the Iraqi club 1-0.

The 2017-18 edition of the ISL will be a ten-team affair and will expected to be conducted from November until March next year.
