Bengaluru FC beat Delhi Dynamos FC by 4-1
Bengaluru FC romped to their second win on the trot in the tenth match of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 after beating Delhi Dynamos FC 4-1 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. Erik Paartalu bagged a brace for the Blues, with Lenny Rodrigues and Miku adding to the score-line. On the other side, Kalu Uche grabbed a consolation for the Lions through a successful penalty.
Bengaluru was on the
attack from the word go and almost took the lead in the sixth minute. Edu
Garcia came up with a cross from the left flank, which Miku tried to head in
but the ball crashed against the bar. The Lions countered with an attack of
their own in the eighth minute when Paulinho Dias found a lot of space in front
of him and took a powerful shot, only to direct it straight at custodian
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who came up with a comfortable save. The Blues kept
persisting though, and fashioned another chance through Miku in the 15th
minute, who found enough space to turn and shoot. But Delhi’s keeper Albino
Gomes was up to the task and came up with a smart save.
The home team finally
got a much-deserved lead in the 24th minute. A Bengaluru free-kick was floated
into the box and Harmanjot Khabra rose to cushion a header towards Paartalu.
The big Australian rose high and headed the ball cleanly into the net.
That spurred on Delhi
and they started initiating attacks of their own in search of an equaliser, but
the Bengaluru defence led by John Johnson held strong. In the 41st minute,
Blues almost doubled their lead. Sunil Chhetri fed Edu Garcia with a delightful
pass to put him through on goal but the Spaniard’s shot with his weaker left
foot brought out a save from an outstretched Gomes.
They did, however, get
their second in the third minute of added time. Edu Garcia curled in an
inswinging corner, and Paartalu rose again to flick the ball in. That concluded
the first half, and much to the jubilation of the West Block Blues, the home
team entered the breather with a healthy 2-0 lead.
Bengaluru came into the
second half with much of the same intensity and scored their third in the 57th
minute. Chhetri picked out Udanta Singh with a lovely cross-field ball. The
winger’s shot was saved by Gomes, but the rebound fell kindly for Lenny, who
toe-poked it home. Miku could have grabbed his team’s fourth in the 76th
minute, but Gomes pulled off a superb save from a one-on-one situation with the
Venezuelan.
With four minutes left
on the clock, Delhi initiated an attack and managed to earn a penalty when
Seityasen Singh’s cross inside the box met Johnson’s hand. Delhi’s skipper Uche
stepped up to take the spot-kick and calmly converted it, sending Sandhu the wrong
way. But Bengaluru got back their three-goal cushion in the very next minute
with Miku finally getting on the scoresheet. He deftly collected a long ball
from Chhetri and outfoxed the defender before beating Gomes with his shot.
That was the score-line
at the final whistle, and Bengaluru perched themselves on top of the points
table, becoming the only team to have won their opening two fixtures this
season.
