Bengaluru FC ‘B’ team won their first ever competitive game

Bengaluru FC ‘B’ logged a dominant win in their first ever competitive game, brushing aside Viva Chennai 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the GV Raja All India Football Tournament at the Chandrassekharan Nair Stadium, in Thiruvananthapuram.

Viva Chennai goalkeeper Manikandan’s propensity to stray from his line proved to be his side’s undoing. In the first half, the Chennai outfit had a lucky escape when Manikandan, who had advanced, was beaten by a long ranger from Myron Mendez, but the ball ricocheted off the bar.

In the second half, Manikandan’s luck ran out as Cleetus seized an opportunity to bury a 40-yard shot for his side’s second goal, which virtually killed the contest. Manikandan, however, made amends with a string of saves.

The goals from Amal Das (48th) and Cletus Paul (58th) put BFC B in the driving seat before Viva Chennai pulled one back late in the 89th minute to cut the deficit.

The win sees the Blues move into the semifinal of the competition, and will now face Indian Navy at the same venue on 29th October at 4.00pm.
