India won the match against Mauritius by 2:1

In the first match of  Hero Tri-nation Football Series India beat the Mauritius by 2:1.

India 2 : 1 Mauritius
37' Robin Singh                     Mervyn Jocelyn 15'
62' Balwant Singh

India won their ninth match on the trot by getting the Hero Tri-Nation Series off to a victorious start at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday. Goals from Robin Singh (37th minute) and Balwant Singh (62nd minute) sealed a comeback 2-1 victory over Mauritius, who caused a scare by taking the lead through Jean Mervyn Jocelyn in the 14th minute.

The hosts’ efforts paid dividends though and it was Robin Singh himself who grabbed the equaliser in the 37th minute, when a beautiful ball from Rowllin Borges put him through on goal. The burly No. 9 looked to have taken an unnecessary extra touch, but he kept his cool to drive in a low shot through defender Louis Marco Dorza’s legs and into the bottom left-hand corner of the ‘keeper Kevin Obrian Jean-Louis, much to the delight of the jubilant crowd.

Manvir Singh, another debutant who had come on as a substitute for Jeje, came closest to sealing the deal in the 90th minute with his first touch, but the lobbed effort with the goalkeeper off his lines went agonizingly over the goal.

India will play their second match against North American Country St. Kitts & Nevis on 24th August 8:00PM IST.
