Hero Federation Cup 2017 Fixtures, Stats, Reports, Previews, Standings


  The Federation Cup, also known as Hero Federation Cup for sponsorship reasons, is an annual knockout style club football tournament in India. It has started in 1977. From its inception till I-League has been started in 1997 (then called NFL), it was the most prestigious national level club football tournament in India. Presently it is the most important club tournament after the I-League, to which it has become a de facto League Cup. The winning club of the Federation Cup gets a chance to compete in the continental level in AFC Cup.

 2017 Hero Federation Cup will be played in Barabati stadium Cuttack, Odisha. It will kick-off on May 7 with the final slated for May 21, 2017. The top 8 placed Teams from the Hero I-League 2016-17 standings will be playing for top honors.

The eight teams will be divided into two groups. Group A would have the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 8th placed teams from the I-League. Subsequently, Group B would have the teams who finish 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th come Sunday.


It will be a round-robin format (each team plays each other once) and the top two sides will qualify for the semi-finals. Each day would see both games of one particular group being played out with the evening kickoff at 4 PM and the late match beginning at 7 PM. The twelve games will be played out in six days (Sunday 7th May - Friday 12th May). Both semi-finals are slated to be played out on Sunday 14th May.

Hero will continue to be the title sponsor of the competition that began in 1977.
Mohun Bagan were the winners of the tournament last time around and are also incidentally the most successful team ever with a total of 14 wins.
